Dr. Mark Nowaczynski’s wonderful film “House Calls”

I finally figured out how to post this. click here Mark is a pioneer of home care of the elderly, and a good friend. Several years ago, Ian McLeod (husband of Margaret Wente) produced this fabulous hour-long National Film Board documentary on Mark’s practice. THIS is how we should be doing business.

I found this film to be so interesting and informative. Funding for house calls is a wonderful idea. These elderly people are so important as they’ve worked very hard and contributed a lot to Canada. Having worked in home care & support I can confirm how important house calls for the elderly are, especially those who are physically handicapped and live alone. Bravo to Dr. Mark for doing this. I would like to see an updated video of what he is doing today in regard to what is extremely important to him, the medical health of the elderly.

OHIP should fund client centred, home based care for seniors…How can we get this to happen???

The struggle continues. People like Mark Nowaczynski and his team and Dr Samir Sinha at Mount Sinai Hospital are not only doing the care, but also advocating for better programs. We in Vancouver are collaborating with them on proposals for research to show that the kind of care we are talking about is not only better, but also saves precious hospital resources. You could contact Mark in Toronto, or advocate directly in your health region. The more voices the likelier we are to be heard. Thanks.

  3. I watched this film several years ago when he was at a conference for health care providers here in the Waterloo Region. I just posted the link on my blog as it is centered around Doctors making house calls and client centered care. It moves you, inspires you and makes you want to change lives and make a difference int our world! He is a true pioneer and leader!
